Home School has selected best-selling author Roald Dahl as Author of the Month for September. Roald Dahl was born on September 13, 1916 in Wales, Great Britain to Norwegian parents. He served in the British Royal Air Force during World War II and later became an intelligence officer.
He published his first short story about his war time adventures in, “The Saturday Evening Post,” a popular magazine, in 1942. His first book for children was The Gremlins, published in 1943, about fantastical creatures that pilots blamed for airplane problems during the war. In 1953 he married actress Patricia Neal and together they had five children.
He went on to write many of the great children’s books of our time, including James and the Giant Peach,
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Matilda. He wrote every day until his death in 1990.
